Principles of Health and Safety in the Workplace – Highfield Level 1 Award (RQF)

Course Introduction

The objective of the qualification is to prepare learners to progress into further/higher level training.
The qualification provides learners with an understanding of the main responsibilities of employees and employers with regards to health and safety. It also provides an understanding of how the workplace can affect health and safety.

This operator training course is designed for potential operator’s who haveno previous experience of operating industrial counterbalanced or reach lift trucks rider-operated. Theyshould be over the minimum school-leaving age (except in docks where they must be at least 18 years ofage), they should have a reasonable degree of physical fitness.

4 hours

Topics include:
• The main responsibilities for health and safety in the workplace
• How the workplace can affect health and safety
• Employer responsibilities
• Employee responsibilities
• Common hazards
• Control measures
• Classes of health and safety signage

The examination for this qualification contains 15 multiple-choice questions that must be completed within 30 minutes. Successful learners will have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding across the qualification syllabus and achieve a minimum pass mark of 60%.

The qualification can be taken as stand-alone or as part of a wider programme of training, is available to learners aged 14+ and has one mandatory unit to complete.
