Course Introduction

Overview of the Forklift Instructor Course

Procom Training’s Forklift Instructor Training Course provides candidates with the skills necessary to prepare and examine operators for the working environments of forklift trucks. Candidates will understand and practice the required instructor skills in accordance with agreed best practice.

The Course concludes with an objective examination carried out by an RTITB examiner. All elements of the examination must be passed to successfully qualify as an RTITB instructor. Achieving an RTITB instructor qualification is something to be truly proud of. Successful candidates are eligible to register on the RTITB Register of Professional Instructors.

New Instructor Course

A course for experienced forklift operators who wish to deliver forklift operator training who have not been formally trained as an instructor before. The Lift Truck Instructor course provides candidates with interactive guided theory, discussion and practice. It prepares candidates to cater for the needs of their learners both in and out of the training room.
Price per candidate (exclusive of VAT): 10 days – £ 1,750.00

3-Day Reregistration or Conversion

A course for currently qualified/recently expired (within the last 12 months) RTITB lift truck instructors who need to refresh their qualification and renew their registration.

This course is also available to currently registered ITSSAR, AITT and NPORS instructors wishing to convert to an RTITB qualification.

This course is only suitable for very experienced, highly competent instructors as the course does not include any remedial/refresher training time.
Price per candidate (exclusive of VAT): £ 900.00

5-Day Reregistration or Conversion

A course for currently qualified/recently expired (more than 12 months and less than 5 years) RTITB lift truck instructors who need to refresh their qualification and renew their registration who feel they need remedial/ refresher training in order to reach examination standard.

This course is also available to currently registered ITSSAR, AITT and NPORS instructors wishing to convert to an RTITB qualification.

This course is also available for those with the following qualifications. Please note this course is not suitable for holders of in-house instructor qualifications. Holders of in-house instructor qualifications need to complete the initial course.

This course is designed for experienced equipment operators, supervisors, and safety professionals looking to step up into a certified instructional role. It is ideal for proficient drivers who possess strong operational skills and wish to gain the teaching techniques, instructional methods, regulatory knowledge, and assessment skills needed to deliver accredited operator training and conduct internal workplace testing.

Full Course: 10 days – Reregistration Course: 3 or 5 days
Full 10-Day Course: £ 1,750 (excl. VAT), £ 2,100 (incl. VAT) – 3/5-Day Reregistration Course: £ 900 (excl VAT), £ 1,080 (incl VAT)

The lift truck (forklift) instructor course covers the following:

    Relevant Regulations
    Approved Code of Practice (ACOP)
    Instructor Role and Qualities
    Basic Principles of Instruction
    Skills and Task Analysis
    Lesson Structure (Practical)
    Lesson Structure (Theory)
    Report Writing
    Visual Aids
    Lift Truck Test

To pass the lift truck instructor course you will need to pass an examination consisting of three elements:

  1. Basic operating skills test on a counterbalance lift truck and pass to instructor standard on the first day of the course (maximum 25 penalties allowed). This test also requires the candidate to undertake both the Associated Knowledge element of the Operator test and the Pre-Use Inspection test. (A suitable period of truck familiarisation will be provided prior to the tests being conducted)
  2. Associated Knowledge, multiple choice theory paper (Pass mark is 80%)
  3. Practical Instructional Ability, deliver a session of no more than 40 minutes in length covering a basic operating skill (Pass mark is 70 out of a possible 100)
