Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (MEWP) – Training

Categories

1a – Static Vertical(Commonly known as a Static Scissor lift)

This type of machine is normally pushed or driven into position. Once in position the stabilisers are platform must be lowed and stabilisers retracted.

 

3A – Mobile vertical (Commonly known as a Scissor Lift)

This platform raises and lowers over the chassis area and does not move out of its area of support.

It can be driven from the elevated position using the platform controls

It can also be driven from the ground position

 

1B – Static Boom (commonly known as a Static Cherry Picker)

Typically mounted on a trailer and needs to be pushed or driven into position.

Once in position the stabiliser legs are deployed. The platform can be raised or lowered, and work on a boom, or telescopic arm.

 

3B – Mobile Boom (commonly known as a cherry picker)

 This platform raises and lowers on an articulated arm or telescopic arm. It can be driven by the operator from the platform while at working at height.

Who is it for / requirements?

This operator training course is designed for potential operator’s who haveno previous experience of operating industrial counterbalanced or reach lift trucks rider-operated. Theyshould be over the minimum school-leaving age (except in docks where they must be at least 18 years ofage), they should have a reasonable degree of physical fitness.

  • Regulations – HASAWA, PUWER1998, LOLER, WAHR, Safety signs and signals regulations
  • Pre-use inspection/handover
  • Safe operating methods and hazards
  • Site surveys
  • Theory test
  • Practical assessment

Assessment

Successful delegates will receive an RTITB Certificate and an ID card if required.

Venue

On-site training
On-site training on your premises is available anywhere in the UK subject to minimum numbers and having the MEWPs available on site. A suitable room would be required for on-site training for the theory section of the course, and a Scissor Lift / Cherry Picker would be needed for the practical test, The MEWP Operator’s Manual and a copy of the current 6 monthly Certificate of Thorough Examination for each MEWP is required.
