Level 2 Award in Risk Assessment (RQF)

Course Introduction

The qualification provides learners with an understanding of the responsibilities of employers; the main causes and costs of work-related fatalities, injuries and ill-health; the role of risk assessment in the prevention of accidents and ill-health; the requirements of a risk assessment; a process for undertaking a risk assessment; and a method to evaluate risk.

This operator training course is designed for potential operator’s who haveno previous experience of operating industrial counterbalanced or reach lift trucks rider-operated. Theyshould be over the minimum school-leaving age (except in docks where they must be at least 18 years ofage), they should have a reasonable degree of physical fitness.

Topics include:

  • Key terms associated with risk assessment
  • Employer’s duties in relation to risk assessment
  • Main causes of work-related fatalities, injuries and ill health
  • Main costs of work-related accidents and ill-health
  • The role of risk assessment in the prevention of accidents and ill health
  • Requirements for risk assessment
  • A simple process for undertaking a risk assessment
  • The use of the hierarchy of control
  • A simple method to evaluate risk

The qualification is assessed by a multiple-choice examination, where the learner must answer at least 9 out of 15 questions correctly.  The examination will take a maximum of 30 minutes to complete.

Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners may wish to continue their development by undertaking one of the following qualifications:
• Highfield Level 2 Award in the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (RQF)
• Highfield Level 2 Award in Health and Safety within the Workplace (RQF)
• Highfield Level 3 Award in Health and Safety within the Workplace (RQF)
