Health and Safety in the Workplace – Highfield Level 3 Award (RQF)

Course Introduction

The qualification provides learners with an understanding of: the requirements of health, safety and welfare; the benefits of a health and safety management system; the risks and control methods for common workplace hazards; the principles of risk assessment and incident investigation.

This operator training course is designed for potential operator’s who haveno previous experience of operating industrial counterbalanced or reach lift trucks rider-operated. Theyshould be over the minimum school-leaving age (except in docks where they must be at least 18 years ofage), they should have a reasonable degree of physical fitness.

21 Hours

Topics include:
• the legal framework relating to health and safety at work
• the main causes of injuries and ill health at work
• safety management systems
• the costs associated with accidents and ill health
• the benefits of risk assessment and the different types available
• understanding workplace hazards and minimising ill health and injuries
• managing the effects of accidents and incidents in the workplace

This qualification is assessed by a multiple-choice question examination.
The examination for this qualification contains 60 questions that must be completed within 120 minutes.
Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 40 out of 60. Learners will achieve a Merit at 50 out of 60.
