Forklift Truck Operator Training – Conversion

Course Introduction

Basic Operator Training must take place ‘off the job’. It covers the practical skills and knowledge required to operate safely.

This course aims to provide effective basic operator training for those operators who will be required to operate industrial forklift trucks as part of their normal work duties.

This operator training course is designed to meet the requirements placed upon employers with regard to their duties under the Health and Safety act 1974 and meets the requirement to satisfy the Health & Safety Executives “Approved Code of Practice L117” for Forklift Trucks.

This Conversion Course is aimed at operators that have been trained on one type of Forklift Truck and now wish to add another type to their skill set – e.g. they have been qualified on a Counterbalance Truck and are now adding Reach Truck skills or vice-versa.

This operator training course is designed for potential operator’s who haveno previous experience of operating industrial counterbalanced or reach lift trucks rider-operated. Theyshould be over the minimum school-leaving age (except in docks where they must be at least 18 years ofage), they should have a reasonable degree of physical fitness.

2 Days

Practical Training

  • Introduction to the lift truck to be used for training, controls and instruments
  • Correct procedures for mounting/dismounting
  • Starting, moving, stopping and steering the lift truck
  • Operation of the hydraulic controls
  • Weight assessment and lift truck stability
  • Handling unladen pallets and laden loads
  • Stacking/de-stacking procedures
  • Driving on/off ramps and inclines
  • Working in racking
  • Road vehicle loading/unloading procedures
  • Lift truck pre-use checks
  • Refuelling procedures

 

Theoretical Training (not required if previous course was completed less than 30 days prior)

  • Health and Safety Regulations
  • Why we need to train
  • Approved Code of Practice
  • Operator’s Safety Code with appropriate Safety film
  • Lift truck stability

Basic Operating Skills Test

  • Practical test of basic operating skills
  • Practical test of ability to carry out a lift truck pre-use check
  • Associated knowledge

Those course members who achieve a pass in all three elements of the examination – pre-use inspection, the practical test, and the theoretical associated knowledge test (not required if previous course was completed less than 30 days prior) – will be awarded with the lift truck operator’s ‘Basic Operating Skills Test’ Certificate. ID cards are optional.

Fully accredited and in-house forklift training for operators and instructors on all types of lift trucks. All levels of experience are catered for. This Conversion Course is aimed at operators that have been trained on one type of Forklift Truck and now wish to add another type to their skill set.
