Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) (EFAW) 1 DAY

The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider and how
to assess an incident. The qualification also covers first aid skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), providing first aid to a casualty who is
choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock, also how to provide first aid
for minor injuries.
In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves workplace
emergency first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the
course. Therefore, this qualification is valid for three years from the date of award. In addition to
this, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.

Who is it for / requirements?

This operator training course is designed for potential operator’s who haveno previous experience of operating industrial counterbalanced or reach lift trucks rider-operated. Theyshould be over the minimum school-leaving age (except in docks where they must be at least 18 years ofage), they should have a reasonable degree of physical fitness.

Course Programme

Topics include:

• the roles and responsibilities of a first-aider
• assessing an emergency situation safely
• CPR and AED
• administering first aid to a choking casualty
• dealing with shock, burns, scalds, bleeds and minor injuries

Assessment

This qualification is graded Pass/Fail. Learners must achieve a pass in each of the following assessment components to pass the qualification:

  1. Practical assessment
    The practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery. This ongoing assessment requires learners to demonstrate practical first aid skills. The practical assessment  will be recorded using the practical matrix within the Assessment Pack.
  2. Centre-marked multiple-choice theory assessment
    Learners are required to pass a 15-question multiple-choice theory paper with a minimum time of 25 minutes provided to learners to complete the theory assessment. In order to pass, learners must achieve at least 70% (11/15). Further/oral questioning can be undertaken if learners do not achieve the required pass mark.
